Way back when in October Trent and I traveled to Thailand with our friend Tang. She is originally from Prachinburi, Thailand where her parents own and operate a resort with white water rafting and other fun outdoor activities. You can learn more about the Wangtaparb Resort here: http://www.wangtaparbresort.com/index.html.
Tang had us on a nonstop itinerary that featured: two days in Bangkok, a road trip and two days at her family's gorgeous beach house in Rayong, followed by another road trip to her parent's house and resort in Prachinburi.
Along the way we ate durian (which if you have ever smelled it in Shanghai smells disgusting because they serve it rotten...it is much tastier in Thailand when it is served ripe not rotten!), we went on a night safari in search of elephants at Khao Yai National Park, we found a tiny village known for its production of beautiful Thai silk where we actually got to meet and see the women weaving the silk, we drove through some extremely flooded areas and proceeded to flood the engine of the borrowed BMW that we were driving, and then miracle of miracles drove said BMW back to Bangkok after it had time to fully dry out. My favorite part of the whole trip was when we took a ferry from Rayong and spent the day on an island dedicated to sea turtle preservation. We saw all different types of baby sea turtles, and adult sea turtles that were recovering before being set free again. When we got there they were just about to feed them, so Tang and Trent jumped in and helped chop up cucumber so we could help feed them. I just wandered around totally enamored taking tons of photos. It was wonderful, and a huge storm blew through so we stayed longer than planned, which again, I loved! While we were in Prachinburi we went to a waterfall and a traditional Thai home that was right on the river. We also saw tons of rice paddies and visited with her charming family. Trent and I felt so fortunate to travel around Thailand with such an awesome friend and of course it was great that she is Thai and speaks the language!
Let me tell you if you've ever thought about going to Thailand, do it. The food is amazing, the people are lovely, and it is a beautiful country.
